Wound up taking a short hour long unplanned hike on my way home from orientation. I’ve wanted to check out Torrey Pines State Reserve, but hadn’t been out this far north along the coast until today. I pretty much just wound up right at the park entrance and decided to check it out. I look forward to going back with Jesse and spending more time there venturing around. Further south is Black’s Beach, which I’ve wanted to visit for a while. Breathtaking and secluded, it’s usually reached by a hiking trail, or from further north of the beach during low tide. Part of Black’s beach is owned by the city of San Diego, but the northern part is owned by the state reserve. The state owned section is designated clothing optional, the largest nude beach in America.
Today I had Whole Foods team member orientation. Totally stoked to be working for the company. Today we were each given a $10 gift card for lunch. How awesome! There are so many employee benefits and opportunities… such a HUGE difference from working at Albertsons. The guy who led the orientation kept referencing his years working at Safeway and I totally understood. He mentioned how some people haven’t experienced working at other chains and lack appreciation because they don’t know any different. I can really appreciate Whole Foods as a company after four years elsewhere. I start this weekend. Hopefully everything goes well. I want to like it there. One perk of the downtown location I work at is that the dress code is especially lax compared to stores in more conservative areas, hence why I’ve seen nose rings and such. Of course, on the downside, my store doesn’t offer any employee parking. Employees have to find street parking. Poop on that.
Girls’ night just before my move, with my sister, mom, granny, and aunt. Had an all vegan feast, drank too much, and played a dress up game in which we pulled a random category from a bowl and had to dress up using clothes and props from my granny’s closet and home. I got 80’s and pirate. For my pirate costume I said, “if only I had a sword” and granny replied “I have a sword.” She really does have everything!
My family is kind of weird and someone is always out of the picture for some time or another. There was drama before in which my mom wasn’t even going to participate but, fortunately, I convinced her otherwise. This was the first time we’d done anything like this. It was much fun for everyone! The following day we all went to the bridal store where I tried on dresses and, unexpectedly, left with one. We wrapped up the event with vegan dinner at Spiral Diner in Fort Worth.
I might have just spent like an hour or more trying to find a Mac compatible download of the original Kid Pix. No luck.
omg apparently artificial banana flavoring is based on the gros michel banana which was wiped out by a banana plague in the 50s and the banana we eat today is a totally different thing called the cavendish and thats why banana candy doesnt taste like bananas do you know how lied to i feel. like there was a fucking banana apocalypse and no one told me about it until now
Very interesting! I once read an article on the fragility of banana varieties. It stated that the banana we eat today is the last palatable variety, and is susceptible to disease which could wipe it out, leaving us with no yummy bananas to eat. Don’t take your bananas for granted!
Food colouring in corn syrup. Watch as they rotate it 5 times one way and then 5 times back.
Your mind is now blown.
This is an example of the strange things that happen in fluids with low Reynold’s number. Reynold’s number is a ratio of the inertial forces and the viscous forces in the fluid. When the viscosity is high and the inertial forces are low fluids behave very differently to the way we are used to. Remember that next time you are trying to swim in honey.
I giffed the original video for your viewing ease. Enjoy.
